  While I hope to complete the AT some day, this isn't a town I want to stay in. With the animosity between the town council and the police department - the latest of which is the stupid decision to not allow a dog handler to purchase his dog / partner - and instead offering a dog that was trained to bite to the highest bidder - trained or not - this just doesn't seem to be a friendly or a safe town. It's obvious to anyone that the only reason the town has made this decision is to try to punish officer Justin Miller for resigning. Such petting retribution is indicative of dysfunction at the management level. It seems that this town has an inability to do basic math. Since at least 2008 the town council and candidates have been fighting over how many officers are needed. Basic math shows that for full-time coverage without overtime takes more than 4 officers, and I can't imagine an officer who wouldn't want ready backup. But instead of doing the math, candidates for office do nothing other than suggest the only purpose of police is to scare away visitors by handing out tickets - as if there are otherwise never crimes in that town. Well, it's not the police scaring people away - it's the vindictive town council who would sell a trained police dog to an un-trained owner just to punish an officer for the crime of resigning. It's a council who doesn't recognize that police perform an important function, it's a town who can't figure out that 24x7 = 168, and that this is more than 4 40-hour shifts. I'll be avoiding this town like the plague until they come to their senses and support their public safety officers.
